Apple Unveiled A New App For TvOS & iOS

Apple has just announced a new ‘TV’ app for Apple TV that aggregates TV shows from video content apps. Building on universal search, the new TV app unifies the TV experience into a single interface from all installed video apps. The TV app is supposed to keep track all the shows you watch across apps available on Apple TV, but there’s a huge catch. The TV app won’t include Netflix or Amazon Video, two of the most popular subscription video streaming services.

The new app will marry iTunes content with the apps you use to stream TV shows, movies and sports, honing its recommendations to your overall video preferences. It’ll give Siri new abilities to get people streaming video quicker than before.

The TV app includes an Up Next queue to continue watching movies and TV shows as part of a ‘Watch Now’ screen. There is also a Library tab which houses all existing purchases. There’s also an integrated store with content from iTunes, HBO and other partners.

As expected, Siri is also integrated with the new TV app so you can start shows using your voice and Apple’s personal assistant. The new TV app includes curated suggestions from Apple’s editors as well as algorithmic suggestions.

Apple’s new ‘TV’ app will be available for free with a software update for tvOS and iOS. An integral part of this will be long-delayed single sign-on support for the Apple TV, also coming in December.
